Re: Novice Class

For consideration.

From what I understand, a pull start class has been approved for the Nationals. On the weekend just run, the people who will be running in this class at the nats, were popped in with the novice gas class. There were two heats run, with 5 in each heat. I think there was at least 4 of the pull start people in the race (possibly could be 5), and the rest were novice. I think most of the pull starters were in the 2nd heat, but there was at least one novice with no pull start.

As my car, and some of the other beginners arent running pull starts, and not to mention some of the novices aren't quite up to the same race standards as some of the pull starts (coughJeffcough), we won't be competing in the nats in this category.

The suggestion is that a new category be created for the pull start category. This will allow the experienced racers to run around the track without the novices getting in their way. I think there may be one or two novices with pull starts who might like to give the nats a crack. Go for it. But it will allow those who would like to remain in the novice category a chance to run still.

I think that the majority of the novices who aren't running pull starts, are probably still wanting to run the small track (my theory anyway). This would work out well and fit between two electric races and not have to change the track around.

Thoughts from other novice/officials?
