Want to come Racing

Hi All,

I used to love my RC.  I had an old Tamiya (can't remember the model) which is not in the best of condition anymore, but I still have my radio gear and would love to get into some racing.  I've read a bit about the club and know you have a RTR class for newbies, but I really want to build a kit myself.  I am thinking of buying a basic HPI R40, throwing a basic engine in it and my old radio gear which should get me started pretty cheap and allow me to upgrade later on once I've got some experience and picked some knowlege from everyone else.

I guess my question are - Does this sound the way to do it?  Is there a beginners class I can race in? And if not are the pro's going to get annoyed at having a Newbie in there midst?

Re: Want to come Racing

Very sorry about the delay getting back to you, yes we have a beginners Gas class which runs every fortnight on a Friday night, while we call it RTR we let all novice drivers start there with not much restriction on the cars.

Once a certain skill level is achieved we encourage you to go up to the next class, Gastouer.

I don't know much about the R40 and I don't think anyone races one in the club, main thing with any car is parts back up and help. Being that there not common parts and advice may be limited.

Also to beware of advice from hobby shops, there are only 2 shops that have involvement with the club, Trackside RC and Toyworld Lawton, advice from other shops needs to be checked with the club, seen a lot of drivers buy stuff that is not much good for racing.

Next race meet is Oct 5th we start racing about 7.00 pm with entries closing at 6.40pm, best come out and have a look, I encourage you to do a little homework first this may save you money and you will most likely will enjoy it more.

Re: Want to come Racing

Thanks for the response,

It's good to know that I can race in beginners until I get a handle on things so thankyou.

I'll definately be dropping by on friday to have a look and get an idea of the sort of cars being driven at the club.

Being in Aquariums myself I already know the dangers of taking any advice at face value although it's good to know trackside is a good one to speak to.

Thanks again

Andrew.

Re: Want to come Racing

Hello again,

I've been doing a bit of research and am starting to think parts for the R40 are going to be pretty hard to get a hold of in Brissy, which is a shame because for the price they seem to be an awesome car.

I'm leaning now towards the Mugen MTX4 which I believe I can get parts for really easily.  Any comments on wether this is a good place to start?  know It's a pro level and I'm only a beginner but I really want to build the car myself and If I get something that will keep my going when and if I advance so much the better.

Re: Want to come Racing

Yes the MTX4 is a lot more common, some of the drivers race them at the club, you will be able to get advice from them.  Also they should be easier to get parts for.
